Apple Working on AI Chip, Apple Poaches Qualcomm VP, Marc Newson's $12,000 Hourglass

Today's Above Avalon email includes the following stories:

  • Apple Working on AI Chip
  • Apple Poaches Qualcomm VP
  • Marc Newson's $12,000 Hourglass

We kick off today's email with my thoughts on Apple developing its own chip dedicated to handling artificial intelligence processing. The email then turns to Apple poaching a Qualcomm VP with experience in baseband processors. Smoke continues to accumulate around the idea of Apple bringing modem design in-house. We go over a few of the recent developments that give me increasing confidence in Apple's motivation. The email concludes with a look at Marc Newson's $12,000 Hourglass. The Apple industrial designer has received some pushback regarding the product. We discuss the product, the pushback, and the genius behind Marc Newson when it comes to materials and manufacturing. We also go over why the Hourglass reminds me of the Apple Watch Edition (first generation).
