Meta Connect 2026: A Lot of Musing Mixed With Some Deception
In a Connect keynote filled with the usual amount of awkwardness and dullness found in a Meta presentation (the audience sounded like they had been tranquilized), Mark Zuckerberg explained Meta’s pivot to personal superintelligence. The metaverse has officially been put on the back burner in lieu of AI agents.
Approximately 40% of Meta’s 55-minute presentation was dedicated to discussing Muse, the company’s new AI agent that was announced two weeks earlier. As a sign of just how sudden all of this has come together for Meta (the company once again suggested Muse has been under development for about eight months), the AI agent’s primary use case was oddly positioned as saving people money. The focus was put on Muse being used to handle shopping, travel, and other commerce-related transactions. Such focus is due to Meta’s plan to monetize Muse by taking a revenue share of transactions run through the AI agent.
