We kick off today’s update with my thoughts on Netflix raising U.S. prices by 10% and why the company is now facing its biggest test to date. The update then turns to discussing how Wordle’s success validates one of Apple’s primary arguments with the App Store. We conclude with news that Nvidia and Epic Games have released a mobile browser version of Fortnite with touch controls. The discussion includes my thought on whether or not Apple is upset with Epic Games going around the App Store to reach Apple users on Apple devices.

We look at how the point being raised by Spiegel is something that also serves as a backdrop to the Apple vs. Epic Games trial. We conclude with a discussion of Snap unveiling its fourth version of Spectacles and why I continue to disagree with Snap’s hardware strategy.

While our focus will be primarily on Apple, it’s difficult to isolate one company as the Subcommittee staff report ended up lumping the four into one bucket. The update kicks off with my overall thoughts on the report. The focus then turns to six major holes in the Subcommittee staff’s logic and rationale when it came to classifying Apple as a monopoly. We conclude with a look at Apple’s initial response to the report and what I think will be the next steps moving forward.

A new PR guerrilla warfare tactic has been unveiled by a handful of companies in the form of a “social-welfare organization” aimed at pressuring Apple to make significant changes to the way it conducts business. We begin today’s update with my thoughts on the Coalition for App Fairness. The discussion then turns to the two overarching goals the coalition is trying to achieve by being in existence. We conclude with a closer look at the coalition’s questionable website filled with propaganda and how the organization ends up biting off way more than it can chew.
