Today’s update will tackle the 450-page U.S. House antitrust report on big tech. While our focus will be primarily on Apple, it’s difficult to isolate one company as the Subcommittee staff report ended up lumping the four into one bucket. The update kicks off with my overall thoughts on the report. The focus then turns to six major holes in the Subcommittee staff’s logic and rationale when it came to classifying Apple as a monopoly. We conclude with a look at Apple’s initial response to the report and what I think will be the next steps moving forward.

The discussion goes over the most interesting comments made by Mark Zuckerberg and Andrew Bosworth, who runs Facebook’s AR/VR/hardware efforts. The update then turns to Zuckerberg talking down the near-term viability of AR glasses and the major difference in strategy between Facebook and Apple regarding how each company is working towards genuine AR glasses. We conclude with the notable difference between Facebook’s vision of the next paradigm shift in computing and my perspective on the topic. A new PR guerrilla warfare tactic has been unveiled by a handful of companies in the form of a “social-welfare organization” aimed at pressuring Apple to make significant changes to the way it conducts business. We begin today’s update with my thoughts on the Coalition for App Fairness. The discussion then turns to the two overarching goals the coalition is trying to achieve by being in existence. We conclude with a closer look at the coalition’s questionable website filled with propaganda and how the organization ends up biting off way more than it can chew.

The cornerstone of Above Avalon membership is access to Neil’s exclusive daily updates about Apple. Daily updates are 2,000 words and sent via email Monday through Thursday. Updates revolve around the following topics:

Member Privileges and Benefits
Receive Exclusive Daily Updates. The cornerstone of Above Avalon membership is access to Neil’s exclusive daily updates about Apple. Each email is 2,000 words and includes Neil’s analysis and perspective on the most important stories and news impacting Apple. Unlike other paid emails that may sporadically talk about Apple, every Above Avalon daily update is focused on Apple. New updates are sent Monday through Thursday.
